IBA Public Speaking Society:
The Public Speaking Society has upheld IBA’s legacy of fashioning leaders through ideas. It has worked for the past decade in changing the dynamics of how people perceive public speaking and debating. It has managed
to instill not just the art of public speaking, but nurtured individuals in such a manner that they felt confident and empowered, two qualities extremely essential in future entrepreneurs and business graduates.
The society’s main focus has been to promote the art, and extend the reach of public speaking both inside IBA and out, through the provision of platforms for likeminded individuals to exhibit their talents and gain
from those of others. It has thus far managed to fulfil the aforementioned by providing training camps and one on one sessions free and open to all. These training sessions include different forms of public speaking
such as, but not limited to: Model United Nations, Parliamentary debates, Declamations and speeches.
As a society, we do not just host tournaments, but we send our students to different tournaments all over the world. Over the past few years IBA PSS has managed to send its teams to Model United Nations conferences in Turkey, the Netherlands, Italy, the United States and Canada. In addition to that, we participate in the largest model united nations in the World, the Harvard WorldMUN. The public speaking society has proved to be the beacon of light for the leaders of tomorrow by helping them realize their potential. For every tournament, local or international, the society members conduct fair trials and practice sessions for the teams which go on to represent and win awards for IBA globally. Since its first year, the society has won numerous accolades such as the “Distinguished Delegation” award at the UN Headquarters in New York, followed by winning the second best delegation at Model United Nations Turkey both in 2012, and in 2015. Furthermore, IBA PSS also held the flag up high at the World Model United Nations 2016 in Rome, Italy and 2017 in Montreal, Canada.
MUNIK IX - Reform From Within
On the 19th of September, in an address to the General Assembly, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, stressed upon the importance of reform. He spoke of the very concrete fear that exists
in society today, a deep mistrust of others and a dread that disregards man-made borders. In the face of such conditions, Secretary General Guterres highlighted that the first response should be reform – Model
United Nations IBA, Karachi seeks to carry forward this principle and stress upon personal and organizational reform to combat the world’s troubles.
Reform From Within follows the understanding that the problems threatening global security and peace have evolved and in response, so must the United Nations and its affiliated organizations. As important as organizational change is, however, MUNIK understands that change starts at the personal level. The MUNIK team hopes to impart this understanding to its delegates in order to make the conference an experience for personal growth and development as well as an academic experience like no other.
