The First Committee of UN General Assembly deals with disarmament, global challenges and threats to peace that affect the international community and strives to develop strategies to the situations encountered in the international security regime. It takes into account all matters pertaining to disarmament and international security that falls within the ambit of the UN Charter. The principles revolve around cooperation in the maintenance of peace and security, governing disarmaments and the regulations of armaments. Even though its resolutions are non-binding on member states, but they still hold significance because of the vital recommendations put forth to the Security Council on matters of global security. The committee is limited by the UN charter which is based on the international principles of cooperation and thereby, it cannot dictate any military action nor impose economic sanction on a particular nation.
